VERNAY WINS FOURTH IRONMAN

New Caledonia’s Patrick Vernay has won Port Macquarie’s Ironman Australia for the fourth time in a row.

The 36 year old finished the gruelling race in eight hours and 23 minutes, ahead of the UK’s Scott Neyedli.

While exactly an hour later, Queenslander Carrie Lester was the first woman home.

More than 1,500 competitors began the day with a 3.8-kilometre swim, followed by a 180-k cycle leg and 42.2-kilometre marathon run.
