LUCKY ESCAPE FOLLOWING TRAIN COLLISION

Country link train services on the Wollun line were suspended today, after a car collided with a train last night.

Police say two people are lucky to be alive after their ute hit the country link explorer passenger train, travelling at 100 kilometres an hour.

The vehicle rolled a number of times, after it hit the train, at the Wollun Road Crossing.

The 58-year-old male driver was trapped for half an hour before being freed and taken to Armidale Hospital with minor injuries.

A 56-year-old female passenger also suffered minor injuries.

The track and train were significantly damaged but the 70 passengers were uninjured.
