FRASER CALLS FOR LOWER SPEED LIMIT

The death of a woman in a crash on the Pacific Highway last year has prompted Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser to call for the speed limit to be reduced.

The state member wants to see the speed limit along the strip of road between Englands Road and Thompsons Road reduced from 70 kilometres an hour down to 60.

Mr Fraser says it needs to be done to avoid another accident like the one that killed a woman at the Hurley Drive intersection last December.

The Roads and Traffic Authority is investigating the idea, but Mr Fraser says it should only be an interim measure while more is done to make the road safer.

“Long term I think you need to look at a roundabout or something along those lines to ensure that that intersection can be traversed with safety.”
