ANOTHER CLOSE CALL FOR LAMAN STREET FIGS

There’s been another day of drama on Laman Street, as contractors were called in to begin removing the trees.
But just as they were about to start the chainsaws, there was yet another reprieve.
Tyson Cottrill was there.

The ball is now in the councillor’s and the GM’s court.
If there is a majority who vote to take up the Premier’s offer for an independent assessment on Tuesday 8th November the council can save a packet by avoiding another potentially costly legal battle.
By taking the offer they save money and (start) to retain community confidence. Today is a proud day for community calls for transparency and accountability. Well done people of Newcastle!
Shame in you Newcastle Council! I don’t understand why the Laman street Figs are so dangerous, compared to any other fig trees currently around Newcastle. And when you compare these fig trees to the many buildings in Hunter Street, that should be condemned that are dangerous and an eye sore, this whole fig fiasco is a joke! Council needs to be transparent on why beautiful Laman Street needs to be destroyed when it’s one of the onlybeautiful streets left in Newcastle. FIX THE EYESORE THAT IS HUNTER STREET!
Newcastle Council just wants to cut the fig trees down so they can put 90 degree car park spaces in Laman St.
All the crap about concerns for public safety and costs of insurance for public liability is just a smoke screen.
Newcastle Council is nothing but a giant leech which only cares about sucking as much money out of the people of this town as they can. They couldn’t care less about the history and culture of our town – IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT THE $$$.
Leave the fig trees alone – I say it’s time for John Tate and the rest of the parasites to be removed from office.
