Lake Macquarie Mayoress Lyn Piper today chose an unusual site to launch her annual Toy and Food Appeal.
Surrounded by excited children at Speers Point Variety Playground, Mrs Piper asked the community to donate what they could to help those less fortunate this Christmas.
Donations can be left at Lake Macquarie libraries up until the 7th of December and will be distributed by the Salvation Army.
