MATTY JOHNS TAKES UP ASSISTANT ROLE WITH NEWCASTLE

One of rugby league’s biggest names is going back to where it all began.

The Newcastle Knights today announced 1997 premiership winner Matthew Johns is rejoining the club, in the assistant coaching role his brother Andrew vacated last season.

“I think he’s doing this for the right reasons, he’s a proud novacastrian, wants to see the club do well, here’s his opportunity and he said it might be the last time he can get involved in a footy club so he’s going to grab it.”

Johns will begin his role with Newcastle next week when the Knights return from Port Macquarie.
