AARON ROYLE CLAIMS FIRST NEWCASTLE STADIUM RUN 10K

Rio-bound Australian Olympians have dominated the inaugural Stadium Run in Newcastle.
Hunter triathlete Aaron Royle added another prize to his trophy cabinet, claiming the 10-kilometre race.
Unfortunately he’s not expected to defend his Fernleigh 15 title next Sunday.
Fellow Olympian Eloise Wellings was the first woman across the line in the 10k.
Victoria Mitchell claimed the women’s title in the 21k half marathon, with Wollongong’s Barry Keem finishing in top spot in the men’s division.
Christie Dawes used the event to warm up for the New York Marathon.
Organisers hope her efforts will encourage more wheelchair athletes to take part in 2016.
Overall, almost 2,000 people took part in today’s races.
