Corporal Mathew Hopkins, the ninth Australian soldier to die in Afghanistan, has been farewelled with full military honours in Newcastle.
Described as an officer of great character and potential, the service at Christchurch Cathedral paid tribute to a man who wanted to be a soldier from the age of four.
