Byron Council’s war on illegal street camping is claiming plenty of casualities.
Since Boxing Day, 550 penalty notices have been handed out to people found sleeping in their vehicles in prohibited zones, 90 of them on Monday alone.
The number of fines handed out for street camping during this peak holiday season has doubled from last year.
In the past week, rangers have also handed out a further 490 notices for other vehicle offences, including parking fines.
