MORE INPUT NEEDED ON WATER STUDY

There’s growing concern about exactly how a water study for the Liverpool Plains will be carried out, ahead of any proposed coal mining.

Stakeholders have met with consultants on the study, who are helping to devise the key terms of reference.

Former Liverpool Plains mayor and landholder, Paul Nankivell, says the draft proposal for the study is full of holes.

” The time given for the study is too short. It needs to be two or three years. It doesn’t address the core impacts of what mining will do to Liverpool Plains aquifers.”

The Caroona Coal Action Group’s, Tim Duddy, believes it does need more work.

” It’s not a case of six months of work thrown out the window and starting again. It’s a case of building on what we already know.”
