Mid North Coast Rugby Union has announced it will not be contesting the New South Wales Country Championships next month.
Local representative players will however, still be eligible for Country Cockatoos selection.
Instead this season, the zone will stage a mid season interzone selection trial at Forster.
One team will feature the best players from the Taree-based southern competition, while the other will include standout players from between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.
From that match a Mid North Coast Axemen’s line-up will be named for a one off match against Far North Coast over the June long weekend.
Central North and New England have also been invited to contest a newly formed Northern New South Wales trophy.
