PARAMEDIC PLEADS GUILTY

Hunter paramedic David Higgins pleaded guilty in the Newcastle District Court today, to attempting to strangle his estranged partner, Leanne Egan with intent to murder.

He’d previously pleaded not guilty to several charges but agreed to the new charge just as his trial was scheduled to begin.

The incident occurred at New Lambton in December 2007.

The court heard psychiatric reports are being prepared, and a number of witnesses will be called to give evidence on his character and the good work he’s done in the community as an ambulance officer.

A malicious damage by fire charge will also be taken into account in sentencing.

The 48-year-old was remanded in custody for sentencing in early April.
