Back to cricket and it’s been a case of third time lucky for Tamworth in the final of the SCG Country Cup.
Setting Newcastle club Stockton 233 to win, Tamworth’s bowlers then did the job, bowling Stockton out for 179.
Playing on the hallowed Sydney Cricket Ground turf would have been a memory in itself while Stockton’s English import Graham Onions made his own mark.
Some lusty Tamworth hitting helped them build a big total, reaching 7 for 232.
Armed with young Blues quick Josh Hazelwood, Tamworth had Stockton on the back foot early in their run chase.
And they never recovered, as Tamworth won by 53 runs.
