COUNCIL REJECTS ORICA STORAGE ON WINERY SITE

Muswellbrook Council has rejected a proposal by chemical giant Orica to store ammonium nitrate at the former Rosemount winery site.

In a unanimous decision, councillors refused the application based on the potential public risk of storing and distributing ammonium nitrate in an area used for agricultural activities, horse studs and tourism accommodation.

Council also cited the lands potential for vineyard, tourism and agricultural uses and raised environmental concerns with the site close to the rocky land west of Denman, the Goulburn River and Wybong Creek.
