COAL TO MOVE FASTER THROUGH LIVERPOOL RANGE

The Rudd Government’s plans to spend $580-million on the Hunter Valley coal rail line is expected to boost coal-based industries in the North West.

$290-million of the funding has been allocated to the realignment of the Liverpool Range rail line to ease the bottle neck through Murrurundi.

Today federal member for New England, Tony Windsor welcomed the funding and said rail problems had been a major hold up for the development of the Gunnedah basin coalfields.

Planning for the project has already begun, with work scheduled to be completed by 2011.
