Police believe a molotov cocktail was used in an arson attack on a car dealership in Cessnock early this morning, destroying several cars.
Officers patrolling the area say they saw a large flash come from the rear of the Cessnock City Holden business on Maitland Road.
They chased a man who was running from the scene, but he escaped through storm water drains.
Three cars were destroyed and two others damaged, estimated to be worth around $100 000.
The offender is described as approximately 165-175cms tall, with a thin build, wearing dark clothes and a hoodie jacket.
