COUNCIL QUERIES NEED FOR TILLEGRA DAM

Dungog council will ask the state government to commission an independent review of the need for Tillegra Dam.

A motion put forward to the council last night to oppose the dam was watered down, but eight out of the nine councillors supported calls for an independent study, separate to Hunter Water’s environmental assessment.

They’re concerned about whether it’s a necessary piece of infrastructure, given the two Central Coast mayors have denied they need the water.

Hunter Water’s costing for the $400-million project is currently before the state pricing and regulatory tribunal.

However, it’s yet to lodge the EAS with the planning department – despite foreshadowing it would be ready in July this year.
