Work has started on the planned $27-million Integrated Cancer Centre for Lismore Base Hospital.
The old Richmond Mental Health Unit has been demolished to make way.
The state-of-the-art facility will provide cancer patients with radiation, oncology and haematology services.
Construction on the new building is due to start at the end of the year, and it should be completed by 2010.
