FARRER OLD BOY SUES FOR BULLYING

A former student at Tamworth’s Farrer High, who says his teachers did nothing while he was bullied at school, is suing the state for $2-million.

Giving evidence in the New South Wales Supreme Court today, 30-year-old, David Gregory, said he is unable to work and suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and agoraphobia, due to six years of bullying by classmates in the 1990’s.

Mr Gregory said he was ostracised, called names and physically abused after criticising a system that involved younger students obeying older boys or they risked being hit with a broom or steel ruler.

He said on one occasion he was hit in the genitals with a hockey stick.

The Department of Education wouldn’t comment on the case today but said all public schools are required to have an anti-bullying plan in place.
