MARINERS TO WEAR PINK AGAINST SKY BLUES

Mariners coach Paul Okon has confirmed that an Argentine number 10 will trial with the club in the next week. For now his full focus is on a blockbuster clash with the Sky Blues, and there’s real belief that his men can inflict Sydney’s first loss of the season. The team will wear pink on Sunday in support of women’s cancer research, prevention and support.

NEWCASTLE JETS ACCEPT REFEREE’S CALL ON SHANE SMELTZ

The A-League will take no action against Sydney FC striker Shane Smeltz, after referee Peter Green deemed the clash that left Newcastle keeper Mark Birighitti with severe facial injuries to be accidental. Birighitti had two teeth re-inserted today after being hit in the mouth by Smeltz’s boot on Saturday night. Jets officials say they must now accept there is no avenue to contest the decision, and concentrate on Birighitti’s recovery.
