GOLD COAST CYCLIST CRITICALLY INJURED

A cyclist is in hospital with critical injuries, after an accident involving a car on the Gold Coast overnight. Police say the car and bicycle crashed on the Gold Coast Highway at the intersection of fourth Avenue, just before midnight. The 46-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The driver of the car, a 55-year-old man, was not injured.

POLICE SEEKING WITNESSES FOLLOWING BYRON BAY CYCLIST DEATH

Police have released an image of the crash site where a cyclist died in Northern New South Wales earlier this week. A 70-year-old man died on Monday, when he came off his bike and crashed heavily on Bangalow Road, in Byron Bay. The crash happened about 650m from the intersection with Coopers Shoot Road. Police believe prior to the crash, a second bicycle rider was seen in the area, as well as a white Toyota Landcruiser. The other rider, the occupants of the white Landcruiser, and any other witnesses are being urged to come forward.

CYCLIST CRITICALLY INJURED NEAR BYRON BAY

Police are investigating the circumstances around a crash near the New South Wales-Queensland border that left a cyclist in a critical condition. Police say a 70-year-old man was riding his push bike east on Bangalow Road, Byron Bay just after midday yesterday, when he came off his bike and crashed heavily onto the road. He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. Any witnesses are being urged to contact police.

BLIND CYCLIST INSPIRES WITH MARATHON JOURNEY

If you think cycling 43 kilometres is tough – try doing it blind! Damien Williams has complete trust in his wingman. Together, they’ll grind their way through a gruelling Samford Valley course in November, for the Braveharts time trial. “I love a challenge and if i can push myself harder to make someboys life better i’ll give it a shot.” Last year, Damien competed in seven marathons in seven days. He also hopes to ride from Hervey Bay to the Gold Coast before the year is out, to raise money for children’s charities.

MAN CHARGED AFTER CAR HIJACKING

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting and robbing a motorist at North Gosford yesterday. About 12pm, a 38-year-old man was sitting in his stationary car on Dwyer Street, when a bicycle rider allegedly crashed into his vehicle. The 32-year-old cyclist allegedly approached the vehicle and threatened the driver before punching him through the open window. It’s alleged he then got into the vehicle and threatened the motorist with a bicycle lock before forcing him to drive to a shopping centre in Wyoming where he was forced to withdraw cash and give it to the man before dropping him off at Gosford Railway Station. The man was found at the train station and later charged.
