ARMED GROUP BELIEVED TO BE BEHIND MID NORTH ROBBERIES

Police have released CCTV images over a string of armed robberies on the state’s Mid North Coast dating back to November in 2015. Police believe the six armed robberies are linked. In each incident, a group of between three to five masked men have targeted licenced premises and clubs. As well as stealing cash from each venue, the armed group has threatened staff, and in one break-in they stole a woman’s handbag. The group has hit venues in Sawtell, Coffs Harbour, Wauchope, Mylestom, Macksville, and Toormina. The latest break in occured on April 20 this year. Detectives are appealing for anyone who has information relevant to the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers.

COFFS COAST’S ITALIAN CONNECTION

A reminder today of Coffs Harbour’s rich Italian history, with the presentation of an historic photograph to the city’s museum. The photo taken at Boambee Reserve in 1956, features 134 of Coffs Harbour’s first Italian immigrants, celebrating the ordination of the city’s first Catholic priest, Father John Dacey. The now 85-year-old Father Dacey was joined today by Sergio Spagnolo, who’s grandmother was the first Italian woman to settle in the area in 1935. The museum is now hoping to build on the donation to collate a full history of local Italian settlement. (****)

FISHING CLUB COULD SOON RISE FROM THE DEEP

The home of one of Coffs Harbour’s best views could soon re-open, if only for a limited time. Council has put the Deep Sea Fishing Club out for tender, almost a year since it closed down. A spokesman said although council is the corporate manager of the state park in which the club sits, it couldn’t speculate on why the state government is only offering a 3 year lease on the facility. Last month it was revealed council had been secretly briefed on state government concept plans for a massive re-development of the Jetty Foreshores which include high rise accommodation blocks east of Jordan Esplanade.

MAN WANTED OVER OUTSTANDING PAROLE WARRANT

The public’s help is being sought to help locate a man wanted for an outstanding parole warrant. 29-year-old Douglas Gomes is wanted for breaching an apprehended violence order. Mr Gomes is described as Aboriginal in appearance with a thin build and black hair and brown eyes. He is known to frequent the Coffs Harbour area and possibly Coraki in northern NSW. Police say Mr Gomes is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
