EPA PRAISES TAREE FOR PROACTIVE APPROACH TO WASTE

New waste management strategies in Taree have been praised by the Environment Protection Authority’s CEO, during a tour of the region today.

“What we’re trying to do is in collaboration with local government because we are partners in this we are trying to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill and increase the amount of recycling, EPA CEO Barry Buffier said.

With a $70,000 grant from the EPA, council has been working to reduce illegal dumping.

“We’ve actually got 35 cameras surveillance cameras out in the bush that we use we have picked up quite a number of people on those cameras and we’ve made those people go back and clean it up so there is no cost to council,” Dan Bugitti from Greater Taree City Council said.
