Newcastle’s Child and Family Health Nursing Service is celebrating a milestone – 100 years since its inception.
It’s an extra special occasion for former nurse Maureen Bench, who today paid a visit to the health centre she helped establish back in 1979.
She says the Waratah service now provides much more individual care to young mothers.
“We worked alone. It was one nurse in each centre and now you work surrounded by colleagues…it would have been a big help.”
The service now has 15 centres operating across the Hunter New England Health district.
