Firefighters will man the Coffs Harbour Fire Station 24-hours a day, following a state government funding boost.
The news has been welcomed by local crews who are among the busiest in country New South Wales.
This weekend, retained fire crews from across Northern New South Wales have had their emergency response tested.
Crews from as far afield Port Macquarie and Armidale have joined with local brigades at a training weekend at Woolgoolga.
