UNITED OUT OF 2017 N.R.R.R.L SEASON

In a massive blow to indigenous rugby league – Northern United will not contest the 2017 NRRRL season. The Dirawongs were stood down by league officials today, after failing to resolve financial and governance issues. NRRRL president Robin Harley acknowledges the decision is disappointing, but says if the club can rebuild, it’s welcome to re-enter the competition next year. (VISION ONLY)

JUNIORS ENJOY BIG-BASH BONANZA

Coast and Country sides spent their Sunday slugging it out, during Far North Coast Cricket’s second Junior T-20 big bash. Complete with white ball – the fast-paced event played at Lismore’s Oakes Oval, is quickly becoming a player favourite. Coast won the under 12 division, and country the under 14 curtain-raiser. Before Coast convincingly defeated their inland rivals under lights, in the under 16’s. Organisers say the success of the clash has guaranteed it will become an annual event. (VISION ONLY)

CUDGEN CROWNED COUNTRY CHAMPS

Cudgen Headland has crushed its rivals – winning Surf Lifesaving’s 2017 Country Championship by more than 500 points. Club representatives racked up 1105 points during the weekend-long event, held at South West Rocks. The comprehensive victory ends Byron Bay’s six-year winning streak. The Bay finished third – 68 points behind runners-up, Sawtell. (VISION ONLY)
