MORE PRISONERS FOR GRAFTON MEANS MORE JOBS

An extra 27 staff will be employed due to an influx of prisoners at Grafton Jail.

An additional 100 prisoners will be held at the jail in coming months, as a result of overcrowding problems elsewhere in the state’s prison system.

Minister for Corrections David Elliott says priority will be given to employing staff who previously worked at Grafton prison.

100 jobs were lost when the jail was downgraded to a remand centre three years ago.

The Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis and Grafton Mayor Richie Williamson have welcomed the prospect of new jobs for the town.
