COUNTDOWN TO THE EX-HMAS SCUTTLING

There’s exactly a month until the former HMAS Adelaide is scuttled off Avoca Beach.

And while protestors have vowed to fight until the bitter end, supporters say the planned dive wreck will become the “hero” of New South Wales tourism.

  1. A wonderful tribute to all the people involved in endeavouring to bring not only a wonderful new reef to a great many species of fish to the Avoca Area, But the sheer thrill of having the advantage and experience of all diver’s alike that will be elated from such a wonderful under water Spectacle..
My Hats of to you all…

  2. Stop this scuttling. Don’t let this dark period in NSW State Government ruin Avoca Beach. The people wanting this ship are the types that don’t think enough. The financial glory is not there; the figures are wrong, and the beach could be ruined.

  3. @ Filippetti: “the sheer thrill of having the advantage and experience of all diver’s alike that will be elated from such a wonderful under water Spectacle..”

For this mob, it appears to be all about getting into a rubber wetsuit and getting one’s thrills underwater.

Shouldn’t we put the 50,000 annual everyday surfers and swimmers who use Avoca Beach each year ahead of an elite sports group which touts such selfish motives?

  4. Great news and yes a new era will begin where common sense overcame ludicrous scare tactics and false information.

  5. Good governments lead by example, is dumping a massive amount of recyclable steel in the ocean a good example? I think not!!!! Isn’t the ocean exciting enough without dumping old, man made rubbish in it to view.

  6. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Central Coast. The scuttling of the ex-HMAS Adelaide is for everyone – including the No Ship Action Group. I look forward to April 13, 2011.

  7. The last thing we need is a “bitter end” to this hubris.
Avoca Beach is a ‘hero’ to tourism now but money isn’t made from free beach visits by the supporters of this dumping.
The soft-bottom habitat is also a ‘hero’ to the marine creatures that inhabit it. It’s the only habitat of it’s kind around here surrounded by reef after reef after reef.
This is not about the ocean it’s about the money.
