TRELOAR HITS BACK

Tamworth Mayor James Treloar has hit back at claims he’s not willing to accept funds from the State Government for the Somerton Bridge upgrade.

Minister for Roads David Borger says the cash is on the table – all Mr Treloar has to do is accept it.

“The letter they sent out arrived yesterday after I’d made the statement that we were waiting for some clarification of the funding, some confirmation of the funding and what the rules were attached to that funding,” Mr Treloar said.

The State Government has now offered a total of $1-million.

“I’m very happy to say yes – I just needed to know what I’m saying yes to,” Mr Treloar said.

Council has 12-months to use the funds and will now workshop the best process to reconstruct the bridge.
