POLICE INVESTIGATE AFTER WALLSEND ASSAULT AND ROBBERY

A 25-year-old man is in a stable condition, after he was assaulted and robbed at Newcastle overnight.

Around 9.50pm, the man was on the corner of Metcalf and Cowper Streets, Wallsend.

Four men, only described as wearing dark clothing, approached him.

He was hit in the face by one of the men before the group stole his watch, mobile phone and shoes.

The man made his way to a nearby restaurant and contacted emergency services.

He was treated on the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.

Police are investigating the incident.
