PRISONER ARRESTED AFTER SEARCH AT JOHN HUNTER HOSPITAL

There were dramatic scenes at Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital this afternoon, as police conducted a full-scale search for a prisoner.

It’s believed the Cessnock jail inmate was waiting to be treated in the hospital, when he escaped just before three o’clock.

Officers searched the area and found the fugitive in nearby bushland.

The 36-year-old was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.
