Avoca’s Adrian Buchan and Copacabana’s Matt Wilkinson have won their first round heats in Tahiti.
Current World No. 1 Matt Wilkinson edged a heat win by just 0.20 points over local wildcard Taumata Puhetini and Brazil’s Wiggolly Dantas in Round 1 Heat 6. It was a low scoring heat win for Wilkinson who will be thankful that he has progressed through to Round 3 and will be hoping and requiring much better scores to continue his charge for this year’s world title.
Meanwhile, 2013 event winner Adrian Buchan found a few rare barrel rides for the highest single score of the morning, an 8.83, to claim a Round 1 win over Brazilians’ Filipe Toledo and Miguel Pupo and will advance directly to Round 3.
