BYSTANDERS APPREHEND DRIVER AFTER ALLEGED POLICE PURSUIT
A man has been charged after allegedly speeding away from a traffic stop and leading police on a pursuit on the Central Coast.
Police detected a Subaru WRX they say was speeding in an 80km/h zone on the Pacific Highway in Doyalson, just after 5pm yesterday.
Police stopped the vehicle, and conducted a mobile drug test on the 35-year-old male driver, that allegedly returned a positive result.
After being told he was under arrest, the driver allegedly sped off, and a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the vehicle left the road and hit a Holden Captiva and a small passenger bus.
The driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene, but was detained by members of the public before police arrived.
After being treated for head injuries, the man was charged with speeding, Skye’s Law, driving recklessly, and escape lawful custody.
He will appear before Newcastle Local Court later this month.
