STUDENTS REMEMBER THE ANZACS

School ANZAC Day commemorations have begun with one of the largest held in Newcastle.

1,400 students attended the combined schools service, which this year was themed around the sinking of the Australian hospital ship, Centaur, during the second world war.

Students received awards for artworks depicting the tragic event.

The Centaur, which was sunk by a Japanese submarine off Queensland, was located late last year.
