A pioneer of breast cancer research and treatment in the Hunter is retiring from his role at Newcastle’s Calvary Mater Hospital.
Professor John Forbes has been Director of Surgical Oncology for the past 30 years, treating thousands of women during that time.
He also helped establish the NBN Telethon Cancer Institute, and started the breast cancer screening program.
Professor Forbes will continue his work as Research Director of Breast Cancer Trials in Australia and New Zealand.
