NEWCASTLE BONFIRE

If you’re looking to do something a bit different this Saturday night, this could be just the thing.

Preparations are underway for a giant bonfire on Newcastle’s foreshore.

The six-metre structure will be ignited at 6pm by the Lord Mayor, and is expected to light up the cityscape for at least an hour and a half.

“We were trying to go for the world’s largest bon fire but we found out that was 40 metres high so we’re just going to do this this year and see what happens in the future.

The event, organised by the God’s House Church in Cardiff, is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul.
