“NO HUMAN HEALTH EFFECTS” FROM PFOS & PFOA

Comments by the Assistant Defence Minister, disputing the possible health impacts of PFOS and PFOA, haven’t been well received by some in Port Stephens.

Michael McCormack argued there’s no link between the firefighting foams and adverse human health effects, like cancer.

Labor Candidate for Paterson, Meryl Swanson, called for more information from the government.

“We need to be given all the information. If the assistant minister has information that it’s not harming people, and not harmful to our environment – then why aren’t we being told this – why isn’t the government sharing that information, why isn’t the government telling us more.”

Mr McCormack’s comments contradict the International Agency for Research, which has classified PFOA as possibly causing cancer.
