WASTE TRANSFER STATION SITE DECIDED

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council last night voted to build the new Kew Waste Transfer Station at a council-owned Herons Creek Road site.

The $2.4 million project is designed to meet the future needs of Camden Haven, and was one of three options considered.

Meanwhile, a koala habitat map for the region will be placed on public exhibition for the next six weeks.

It estimates the koala population at 2000, which has remained stable since 1949, despite local extinctions in King Creek, Laurieton and Bago.

The map’s aim is to ensure future development won’t be detrimental to the population.
