MAN ON THE RUN AFTER CRIME SPREE ACROSS THE HUNTER & PORT STEPHENS

A man has gone on a crime spree in the Hunter and Port Stephens regions, breaking into a house and stealing a car, before holding up a service station.

Just after midnight this morning, the man forced his way into a service station on Anderson Drive at Tarro, north of Newcastle.

Staff retreated into a nearby room when the man jumped the counter, who then stole cash and cigarettes, before taking off in a red hatchback.

The man is described as 183cm and of medium build, wearing a black hooded jacket, grey tracksuit pants, black shoes and had his face disguised.

Police later found a burnt-out vehicle at a Sports Centre in Malabulla, which they believe is related to the robbery.

A Tanilba Bay resident later contacted police to report her house had been broken into and her red Suzuki Swift stolen, while another Tanilba Bay resident contacted police, after a man of similar description attempted to break into his home.
