AGED CARE EXPANSION IN LAKE MACQUARIE

Anglican Care will be hoping to boost its aged care facilities in Lake Macquarie, if moves to redevelop the current facilities go ahead.

The $43 million redevelopment of its current site in Toronto would see the construction of a 147 bed residential facility and 43 independent living units, as well as other facilities including a Men’s Shed, community centre, indoor pool and village green.

If approved by Lake Macquarie Council, the upgrade is planned to start in June or July 2013.

Anglican Care CEO Colin Osborne says the development will prepare the region for future demands.

“Currently 17% of Lake Macquarie residents are aged 65 and over; but by 2022, 25% of the population will be over 65. This means organisations such as Anglican Care need to plan and move now to ensure we can meet that demand in the decades to come,” he said.
