COUNCIL TO VOTE ON THE REZONING OF FLIGHT TRAINING ACCOMMODATION

Tamworth council will tonight vote on whether to rezone accommodation for food production workers, which would allow them to stay longer in the city.

Temporary staff – from interstate and abroad – moved into the vacant international flight training site at Tamworth airport after it sat vacant for 12 months.

It was meant to be a short-term fix but as the COVID situation ramps up – council and local businesses are calling for a more permanent solution to be put in place.

If approved, the rezoning would allow temporary workers to stay beyond the current limit of 182 days per year.
