Ryan Callinan will turn his attention to the US Open of Surfing, after being knocked out in the opening round of the Ballito Pro in South Africa.
The Merewether boardrider struggled on his backhand in the small, inconsistent conditions.
A strong showing would have gone a long way towards helping Callinan secure a spot on next year’s world tour.
He’ll now likely drop out of the top 10 in the qualifying series.
