PROTESTS FOR COMMUNITY MIDWIFE PROGRAM

More than 30 mothers and midwives marched to Tamworth Hospital’s doorstep today, protesting the sudden hiatus of the community midwife program.
The service provided additional assistance for expectant mothers from the early stages of pregnancy.
Hunter New England Health was forced to close the program indefinitely due to three sudden staff departures.
“This is the next best thing, continuity of care is essential and we’re about to lose that this is the Gold Standard of International Care.”
General Manager Catherine Death has said hiring new staff is one of her top priorities.
