The Port of Newcastle is confident a suitable container terminal operator will be found, with management confirming it’s received several offers from large global operators in recent weeks.
It comes after negotiations with DP World Australia fell apart around a fortnight ago.
The bids all depend on the state government scrapping anti-competitive charges that protect existing Sydney terminals.
Port CEO Craig Carmody says evidence from Deloitte and others suggests the number of containers moving through New South Wales is likely to double over the next 20 years.
