COMMUNITY MOURNS TRAGIC LOSS OF GENERAL STORE OWNER

The tight-knit Central Mangrove community is grieving the loss of its general store owner.

The 35-year-old father of two died on his birthday in a horrific car accident last night.

Around 7 o’clock he was driving along Wiseman’s Ferry Road when he lost control of his vehicle, slamming into a power pole.

He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

  1. As a local I amazed there aren’t more fatalitlies considering all the drunk and drugged drivers, Baz was a nice guy but pissed at the wheel coming home from the golf club. They are partially responsible for letting him drive in such a state! The police need to jump on all the drugged and drunk drivers, hopefully this will be the catalyst?

  2. People have to take responsibility for their own actions!! Sorry about the accident & the loss of life is tragic but lucky he didn’t slam into another car & hurt anyone else. Wisemans Ferry Rd needs the speed limit dropped to 60 k’s from start to finish i live on Wisemans ferry Rd & people drive too fast & the trucks are the worst with the speed they travel on our rd & the road was not made for those big trucks!!
    HAD ENOUGH!!!

  3. I don’t know the facts, however, on the general issue, we are a culture that often looks to blame “The Establishment”. If he was drinking, HE was responsible, but he also wasn’t doing it alone. Perhaps a bartender should know if someone is driving home and keep count but how do you do this with multiple bar staff serving and so many customers.
The people who DO know exactly what’s being consumed and if they are driving are those drinking with them. So I say, yes to cutting out drink-driving, yes to taking personal responsibilty, yes to the establishments being more active, but HELLO, how about the drinking mates taking a really big slice of the blame too. How often do we hear, “Just have one more mate” as a drinking “friend” puts a glass, already bought, down in front of someone.

  4. If you were as pissed as Baz was your judgement is impaired! The club abides by RSA and was negligent… FFS even the new store owners 20k’s down the rd are dope smokers (yeah wait till the cops breath test them sometime to prove) and let me guess, you two are locals at the club right? Perhaps the bar people who served? The cops need to jump on all the drugs and drink on wisemans ferry rd full stop!
