“Town where came from was quiet and small
we played in he meadow where he grass grew so tall
In summer the lilacs would bloom everywhere, the laughter of chldren would float in the air.
Yes I can see it all so clearly now: where has it gone?
oh still going on so clearly now; though all of it is gone.
Where are the meadows? Tar and Cement.
Te laughter of children? Tar and Cement
Nothing but acres of Tar and Cement
Acres and acresof Tar and Cement.”
Many Babyboomers will remember that earliest of environmental protest songs.
Selling off open green spaces is never a good option; once its sold, and the money is spent you have nothing left but acres of tar and cement – which contribute to flooding because the water has nowhere to soak in.
You also have more and more children who have less and less space to play and explore. And what happens to them? They get bored and with nothing to do they get into mischief, cause damage to public property and so forth.
I strongly suggest that Council gets a bit more clever with its money and spend it more wisely. Don’t pave paradise to put up parking lot!
nice post. thanks.
