A man has died and another was seriously injured when a trench collapsed at a construction site at East Maitland.
The two men were excavating a deep hole on a residential site when tonnes of earth caved-in on them around 12.30pm.
One man was freed a short time later and taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
