THE ARGLE HOUSE, FINNEGAN’S AND LIZOTTES TO CLOSE AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Newcastle’s nightlife has entered uncertain waters, with popular venues, The Argle House, Finnegans and Lizottes, temporarily closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It follow the Federal Government’s decision earlier today to ban indoor gatherings of more than 100 people in a bid to quell the deadly virus.

Popular nightclub The Argle House took to social media to make the announcement, writing on Facebook “The AH will be unfortunately closing its doors until further notice.”

“It is essential that we put actions in place to prioritise the safety of our beloved patrons, staff and all members of our community.”

Darby Street Pub, Finnegan’s followed suit, saying it was “pausing operations” immediately.

In a post to Facebook, the venue stated: “As predominantly a nightlife venue in Newcastle, we do not believe it is in the best interests of the greater community to continue to trade as normal whilst the current indoor limitations and social distancing practices are recommended.”

Urban Smoking Co, Finnegan’s restaurant component, will continue to operate on UberEats.

Another local nightlife casualty is the Lambton’s premier live music venue, Lizotte’s, which will be closed until April 15th.

“We will miss the music immensely and we feel for everyone in our industry and beyond who’s lives will be impacted by these events,” said Brian Lizotte, in a video posted to Facebook.

“But one thing is for sure, is that stage will be ready to go (when this is over) and the show will go on.”

These are unprecedented times. Is YOUR pub/club/venue temporarily closing or limiting crowds? We’d love to know. Please get in touch news@nbntv.com.au
