Police investigating the bashing death of a grandfather at Whitebridge last week, have charged a second man with his alleged murder.
Detectives arrested the 23-year-old at a Windale property on Saturday.
He was then taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment, officers only charging him earlier today.
Police allege he was among three men who broke into Phillip Steele’s Lonus Avenue home… fatally injuring the 60-year-old.
The accused will face Newcastle Local Court today.
