There was plenty of action today at the Coffs Harbour Dragon Boat Club regatta, as the River Rats from Kempsey claimed the championship.
20 teams from between the Hunter River and the Tweed took part in the carnival on the Bellinger River.
“We had a comfortable win but it was very windy and wild, a lot of water out there spraying over the front of the boat, but yes a good race.”
Hundreds of competitors and onlookers lined the river bank for all the racing action, including some novices having their first try at paddling a boat.
“we have been going really well, we have a reduced crew but we did really well we came third in the around the island paddle yesterday.”
